Acrylic nails are popular, but also some better alternatives that can be used to remove them.
Other than spending some money and having to wait for your nails to grow out, there is no real reason why you may not want to get acrylic nails. However, if you are looking for a way to get these fake nails off without ruining your real ones, there are several options available to you.
Long Acrylic nails have been known to last around 2 weeks which is more than a week longer than natural fingernails. In addition, it can be expensive to get long acrylic nails removed which could cause people not to want to do it. But there are ways to get acrylic nails off at home without getting your real nails ruined.
Step 1:
Go to a spa or salon and get fake nails removed. Chemical nail removers will be used in this process.
Step 2:
Make an appointment with a professional manicurist that specializes in removing artificial nails. They might charge more than normal salons but it’s worth it if you want clean nails afterward. The manicurist will soak your fingers in acetone which helps dissolve the acrylic easily so they can peel it off quickly for removal, so try not to do this yourself even though you still can.
Step 3:
Get some cotton balls and soak them in nail polish remover. If you don’t have any on hand, get pure acetone instead but that’s even more dangerous because it’s very strong and flammable so do that with care if you decide to go this route. Soak the cotton balls in the solution for 10 minutes then remove them after rolling your fingers around gently on top of each ball for 5 minutes or so. Your nails will turn white which is fine since this is a normal reaction when they are soaked in acetone. It’ll also make your acrylic nails easier to remove without worrying about ripping or breaking your real ones in the process. You can cut the remaining acrylic off using scissors afterward if you want.
Step 4:
Soak your fingers in warm water for 5 minutes. Fill a bowl with some warm water then soak each finger individually afterward to help loosen the adhesive holding the nails on better. Use lotion after the water dries or while you are soaking them if you have dry skin so it won’t tighten up again.
Step 5:
Get some nail glue remover. This will help dissolve any leftover adhesive on your nails so it’s easier to remove them completely without worrying about anything hurting your real nails underneath it all. It also helps prevent damage or discoloration which is a bonus! You can buy this product at a drug store, supermarket, beauty supply store, and online as well. Make sure that whatever place you go to, they have plenty in stock since this product seems to be very popular.
Step 6:
Trim the remaining acrylic nails with scissors then use a file or buffer that is designed for artificial nails to smooth out any rough edges left on your natural ones after the process. Buff away any acrylic marks left behind which can be hard if it has dried up already but try your best to make them look normal again. This will help save time later when you paint your real nails which helps avoid re-doing everything all over again. It is also advised not to wear false nails for around 3 months so you can grow out your nail bed properly without damaging it further by using fake ones that are too long or too thick at times.
Step 7:
File your natural nails down to make them shorter. If they are too long, the acrylic glue remover will not be able to completely dissolve all of it at once and it’ll harden back up again making things even more difficult for you since they’ll most likely be pointing upwards again. Removing fake nails takes time especially when you do it yourself so don’t rush this process if you want to end up with healthy-looking real nails afterward. It might seem like forever but just remain patient and don’t give in because it’s easy to forget about everything when you get frustrated or upset.
Step 8:
Apply pure acetone directly on the remaining glue so it can start dissolving faster. But remember that acetone is very strong so don’t just pour it all over your nails without being careful. It can be dangerous if you do something wrong so always follow the instructions on the bottle as well as wear gloves when using it to avoid any accidents from happening instead.
Step 9:
Apply nail glue remover after soaking each finger in acetone for 5 minutes or longer if needed. Now that your natural nails have been filed down, they should come off a lot easier now especially if you soaked them first in a bowl of warm water beforehand. Just put some paper under them before applying the remover then gently rub off the old glue with a towel afterward until nothing is left behind. You can also use a flat wooden stick or orangewood sticks which most people find easiest to use when they are removing false acrylic nails.
Step 10:
Wash your hands in warm water with soap to remove any leftover acetone or nail glue remover on them using a nail brush afterward so you don’t get it stuck in your eyes when you go to sleep. If you have time, wait until at least 30 minutes pass before moving on to the next step so the solvent can dry up and not mess with your real nails. You should also avoid submerging your hands in water for too long afterward because it will weaken the adhesive if it is still wet and soggy since this can cause lifting which prevents any new pressure from being applied underneath without anything to keep it all together.
Step 11:
Apply cuticle oil or petroleum jelly on your natural nails then cover them with a thin coat of nail glue or basecoat that contains formaldehyde which will help prevent the acrylic nails from sticking to the surface. This makes it harder for any bumps and lumps to form underneath when you’re going about your daily business so it is advised to use something like this if you plan on wearing fake nails often. It is also very important not to skip this step because if you do, the glue under them might melt when you go outside in hot weather during summer and cause all kinds of issues such as lifting, peeling off, and discoloration later on if left alone too long without applying anything on top of it.
Step 12:
Apply nail clear polish at least twice in a row if the nails seem too thin or weak. It is best to use a product that dries very quickly because this allows you to move on with your life instead of having to sit around and wait for it to dry after each coat. Some people might not like doing all this but just remember that acrylic nails aren’t cheap so they should be treated accordingly otherwise, they’ll break underneath any kind of pressure applied onto them which causes filing them down even more for new ones to form afterward without breaking apart right away.
Step 13:
Repeat steps 1-12 until the desired length is reached while making sure not to get acrylic nail glue remover under your real nails unless you want them ruined while trying out new shapes and designs after growing out your nails.
Step 14:
Keep filing down the sides of freshly applied fake nails after 3-4 days to prevent them from sticking out too far or exposing yourself to any health risks in the long run. If you do this, you won’t have to worry about your real nails at all anymore unless they’re naturally weak and prone to breakage if exposed to various solvents which is why it’s best not to wear acrylics for more than 6 weeks at a time.
Step 15:
Seal in all your hard work by using a nail strengthener that contains formaldehyde before going to bed which makes a huge difference even if you already did everything mentioned here so far without skipping a single step to make them last longer instead of peeling off too soon after being applied on top of natural ones at home for beginners.
That’s all there is when it comes to removing fake nails with acetone so make sure you follow each step carefully without skipping anything important when doing so since some people might not know how sensitive it can be when trying something new like this for the first time in their lives. The more you do it, the easier it gets and the results will become better over time when doing this again and again because acrylic nails have certain limitations just like real ones do.
You can also use clear polish to prevent any kind of chipping whenever freshly done fake nails get bumped into anything or hit something while going about your day or handling objects during personal hygiene activities such as bathing or showering. This usually happens when not enough time has passed between two coats for it to dry completely which makes the latest one stick onto the wet one underneath if you’re in a hurry, thus making small bits chip off at first until they are allowed to dry all by themselves.
